lyrics

I’m Not Getting Anything for Christmas

I’m not getting anything for Christmas.
This year we won’t have a Christmas tree.
And I don’t think that jolly old St. Nicholas
is coming down our chimney Christmas Eve.
It’s not because of any bad behavior
even though that might be what you think.
It’s ‘cause this year Mama ran off with our neighbor,
and now all Daddy does is sit and drink.

In Sunday school we learned to love our neighbor.
I guess that Mama learned that lesson well.
Now if I ever mention her to Daddy,
he says that they both can rot in hell.
There ain’t no sense in hanging up a stocking,
and we don’t have a wreath up on our door,
and the only thing I’ll find on Christmas morning
is my old daddy passed out on the floor.

But that’s alright.
It’s okay.
I wake him up and get him breakfast every day.
It’s okay.
That’s alright.
He still tells me that he loves me every night.

Well, I don’t think that I’ll miss the shiny presents.
I know that I won’t miss those scratchy clothes.
There are times when I still miss my mama,
but in a little while, the feeling goes.
They say that Daddy sets a bad example,
and the county wants to put me in a home.
But me and Daddy like to keep things simple,
so I wish that they’d leave well enough alone.

But that’s alright.
It’s okay.
I wake him up and get him breakfast every day.
It’s okay.
That’s alright.
He still tells me that he loves me every night.
