Silent Nights The Christmas lights blink off and on. Another year has come and gone. I never quite got started on my resolutions. Carolers were singing “Silent Night.” Well, you know they got that right. But when you’re lonely, silent nights ain’t no solution. This was the year she chose to leave. So now I’m here on Christmas Eve. No gifts to give. None to receive. No love or laughter. An empty house, an empty bed. A fifth of Johnnie Walker Red. And the silent nights that lie ahead stretch on forever.

Santa at the Mall Well, he’s too old to be working, but he’s too poor to quit. So he found part-time employment at a job that lets him sit. Now he interacts with children, and they love him, one and all. He’s the very merry temporary Santa at the mall. And when his shift is over, he takes off his suit; and he hangs it in his locker with his beard and his black boots. Then he walks down to the bus stop to catch his ride back home, but there’s no one there to greet him because Santa lives alone. Well, Christmas is for children. That’s the way that it should be. Hang their stockings on the mantle, put their gifts under the tree. But don’t forget the old folks who have no one at all like the very merry temporary Santa at the mall.

Let’s Save Christmas The whole North Pole is melting. Santa could lose his shop. There’ll be some sad, sad Christmas mornings If this climate change doesn’t stop. So, children of all ages – Let’s make sure that there’ll be toys For countless generations Of excited girls and boys. Let’s save Christmas. Plant a tree. Try to use Less energy. Wear a sweater, And turn down the heat. Eat your veggies, And skip the meat. Let’s save Christmas. Ride the bus. You’ll be helping All of us. Buy local When you can. Help a jolly Old fat man. Let’s save Christmas. Let’s save Christmas. Let’s save Christmas And save the world.

Days of Wonder Day of wonder. Day of beauty. Day of blessings. Day of joy. In a manger in a stable lies a little baby boy. Day of anger. Day of fury. Day of passion. Day of rage. In a courtyard in a temple stands a young man with eyes ablaze. Days of wonder. Days of wonder. Days of wonder. Days of wonder. Day of mourning. Day of sorrow. Day of grieving. Day of loss. In a clearing on a hillside hangs a man upon a cross. Days of wonder. Days of wonder. Days of wonder. Days of wonder. Day of wonder. Day of glory. Day of worship. Day of praise. In the morning on the third day He has risen from the grave. Days of wonder. Days of wonder. Days of wonder. Days of wonder.

Evangeline 04:47
Evangeline Well, hello. You know who this is. I just called to wish you Merry Christmas and let you know how much I miss you. I wish that I could spend this Christmas with you. Well, I’ve been sober since October. Maybe some time you could come on over. I’ll fix you up your favorite supper. And we can listen to some Marshall Tucker. Evangeline. You’ll always be my Valentine. Evangeline. Could you ever give me one more chance? I remember last December. You told me I was in your heart forever, but you felt I needed help. And it was time for you to save yourself. It was snowing. The wind was blowing. Your baby bump had just started showing. You looked so pretty but showed no pity. You didn’t want to raise a child with me. Evangeline. You’ll always be my Valentine. Evangeline. Could you ever give me one more chance? The other day I saw your brother. He said that you were living with your mother. Well, how’’s the job? And how’s the baby? Do you think that I could see him, maybe? Evangeline. You’ll always be my Valentine. Evangeline. Could you ever give me one more chance?

A Rocking Little Rhythm Nothing in my hands. Nothing up my sleeve. A rocking little rhythm is the only thing we need to make a little magic on a winter’s night. We’ll get a fire burning if the rhythm’s right. Come on, everybody, don’t you want to move your feet to the beat? When I was growing up, just a little boy, I wrote to Santa Claus not to bring me any toys — just a little tin drum and a pair of sticks ‘cause with a rocking little rhythm I could get my kicks. Come on, everybody, don’t you want to move your feet to the beat? Out in Albuquerque, down in Baton Rouge, a rocking little rhythm’s gonna change your attitude. Over on the beaches in the south of France, all the mademoiselles want to dance, dance, dance. You might be alcoholic. You may be overweight. You might be out this evening on a real bad date. But just forget about your troubles for a little while. That rocking little rhythm’s gonna make you smile. Come on, everybody, don’t you want to move your feet to the beat? A Beach Town in the Winter A beach town in the winter is a lonely place to be. There ain’t nothing stirring but a few old memories. But I still like to come and feel the sand between my toes and think about one summer and a girl I used to know. I met her on the boardwalk. It was 1999. We laughed away the summer days and loved away the nights. But September came along the way September always does. And the next year she was somewhere else with another summer love. So I walk along the shoreline, and I watch the seabirds fly. I’m as aimless as the driftwood that gets washed up with the tide. Standing at the water’s edge and staring out to sea. Yeah, a beach town in the winter is a lonely place to be.

Is That Not What We Celebrate at Christmas? The love that lives within our hearts for our fellow man. The faith that we can live our lives according to God’s plan. The hope that peace and brotherhood will reign throughout the land -- is that not what we celebrate at Christmas? The special ties that families share that keep them growing strong. A child’s smile, a mother’s love, a favorite Christmas song. The dream that peace on earth could truly happen before long -- is that not what we celebrate at Christmas? Oh holy night. Cristo Redentor. Born in a manger in Bethlehem. Oh Prince of Peace. Our lord and saviour -- He’s seated now at God’s right hand. Enjoy the decorations and the gifts under the tree. Enjoy the Christmas parties with their lovely things to eat. But save something for the homeless people living on the street. Is that not what we celebrate at Christmas? Is that not what we celebrate at Christmas?

I’m Not Getting Anything for Christmas I’m not getting anything for Christmas. This year we won’t have a Christmas tree. And I don’t think that jolly old St. Nicholas is coming down our chimney Christmas Eve. It’s not because of any bad behavior even though that might be what you think. It’s ‘cause this year Mama ran off with our neighbor, and now all Daddy does is sit and drink. In Sunday school we learned to love our neighbor. I guess that Mama learned that lesson well. Now if I ever mention her to Daddy, he says that they both can rot in hell. There ain’t no sense in hanging up a stocking, and we don’t have a wreath up on our door, and the only thing I’ll find on Christmas morning is my old daddy passed out on the floor. But that’s alright. It’s okay. I wake him up and get him breakfast every day. It’s okay. That’s alright. He still tells me that he loves me every night. Well, I don’t think that I’ll miss the shiny presents. I know that I won’t miss those scratchy clothes. There are times when I still miss my mama, but in a little while, the feeling goes. They say that Daddy sets a bad example, and the county wants to put me in a home. But me and Daddy like to keep things simple, so I wish that they’d leave well enough alone. But that’s alright. It’s okay. I wake him up and get him breakfast every day. It’s okay. That’s alright. He still tells me that he loves me every night.
